If you are unhappy with your marks: scrutiny
Scrutiny is a re-check of your answer sheet. It is not a re-evaluation of your answers — the board verifies that all questions were marked, that marks were totalled correctly, and that nothing was missed in transfer.
- Applied for online, within a short window that in 2026 ran from 1 to 7 April.
- ₹120 per subject. You choose which subjects to apply for.
- Marks can go up, stay the same, or in principle be corrected downward if a totalling error worked in your favour.
Apply for scrutiny only in subjects where the mark genuinely does not match your expectation. Applying in every subject costs money for very little chance of change, and the window is too short to reconsider afterwards.
If you failed one or two subjects: compartment
The compartment application ran alongside scrutiny in the same 1–7 April window in 2026. BSEB set a target of declaring the special and compartment results by 31 May 2026 — deliberately, so that students clearing the compartment exam can still take admission in the same academic session rather than losing a year.
That timing matters more than it sounds. It is the difference between joining class 11 in the same year and waiting twelve months.
What to do after passing
For students in the Kosi division, the two things worth doing immediately after a matric pass are unrelated to the marksheet itself.

What to do if you did not pass
Two routes, and they are not the same:
- Compartment, if you meet the two-subject and aggregate conditions above. This keeps you in the same academic session.
- Reappearing at the next annual examination, if you do not. This costs a year, but it is a full attempt rather than a partial one.
There is no third route, and anyone offering one is not describing a process BSEB operates.
Beware of result-related fraud
- Nobody can change a declared result. Scrutiny is a clerical re-check applied for through the board, not through a person.
- Fake marksheet and "correction" services are common in this division. A BSEB marksheet is verifiable against the board's records; a forged one fails at the first verification and can end a candidature entirely.
- The only fee is the board's own scrutiny fee, paid through the portal.
